Internet you're being slow!!!! Well anyway, hi. It's been a while, and yeah. For those of you in school (like me) you're probably  tiny bit dead because this year is TOO LONG END YEAR JUST ENDDDDDDDDD. Yeah. I'm pretty sure it usually ends on June 26th, but now it's ending on the 27th. June!

Hooray June, I really missed you. It's been a while. Please bring us good weather, but maybe no super hot days that are gross and humid. Well, anyway I should talk to the internet. Hello internet! How are you? I think you should know that June is International Cat Adoption Month! You can get kitties for cheaper, and sometimes they'll have deals like they have all their shots, or are spayed/neutered.
So... if you can adopt a kitty, take advantage of June. Also, if you can adopt, try to get an older cat, as they often don't get adopted because EVERYBODY WANTS KITTENS. In the link below, I've got a really good cat adoption website that will also spay/neuter strays for you.

Rob Ford, Free Comic Book Day and Serious Stuff

So for school we have to choose three current events that you might not know about, but probably do.

1. Our mayor is in rehab! Yes, I am in fact talking about Rob Ford. So basically, he's decided to step down for 30 days and take care of his alcohol problem. Hopefully that includes his other substance abuse problems as well. There have, however been claimed sightings of this mayor of ours while he was supposed to be getting himself together, but now his doctor has confirmed that Rob is under his care. (Rob did also say that he was seen out and about, but I'll let it slide...) 

2. Free Comic Book Day was last last Saturday. And it was lovely. I'll post the link at the bottom of this post. (It helps if you wake up at a horribly early hour, so that you have a bunch of comics to choose from. I went to the Silver Snail, which is really close to the Eaton Center. It also has a really nice cafe called the Black Canary.) 

3. It rained.

Through A Bird's Eyes

Norway

In geography, we've been studying cities. We've watched a documentary all about urban planning, and we have to do a blog post. This is it. I had to choose a bird's eye view of a city, and decide judging by the picture if it looked like it was well designed. I chose Norway. I think this area is fairly well designed because the water hasn't been blocked off by a highway or anything that really prevents people fro accessing it, and there's a decent looking bridge connecting the two sides. However, I do think maybe another way to access both sides would be good, although there are boats in the water. Anyway, bye.Oh, and look up slow TV in Norway.

Sustainability

Let The World Be Happy

So, for school, we have to define the meaning of sustainability. I think it means (in the context of Earth, that is) when any number of living things can survive but not be desperate and close to death. I think that would mean not how we are living now, where privileged countries use too much of the world's resources, and then other countries have barely enough to live. 
I think what we have to do, is expose what consequences our actions have on the planet, and have people realize that there is still time to change what we're doing.

Guess what. It actually is spring. But where I am it's -10 outside, and I'm pretty sure I dislike it greatly. I really hope that it gets into the positive number temperatures sooner than later.

It's been a while since I last posted. Since I last posted I have seen about 3 seasons of Doctor Who, so I've obviously been busy. In fact,I've been so busy I've even done lots of other things other than watching Doctor Who! Crazy! Anyway, just wanted to make sure you're still there. Still there? Awesome. It's almost March Break and it's about time. Also, I'd love it if the temperature stopped being like 20 degrees below zero. That would be lovely.

Banksy

Banksy is a graffiti artist. He mainly uses stencils to create his art, but when he first started he did freehand graffiti. Instead of just spraying doodles and words on to walls, he makes stenciled graffiti that often refers to politics and global issues. He incorporates humor into his art,using jokes and playing on words. What I think is one of the most interesting things about Bansky is the fact that he has chosen to remain faceless in the sense that nobody has really seen him at his work. Of course, every so often, there will be an outburst in the media, claiming so-and-so had spotted Banksy and maybe a photo or two. But generally Banksy is relatively unknown. He also makes installations including The Elephant In The Room, where he took a circus elephant, painted it all over to match the wallpaper, and stuck it in a room. There was lots of controversy over the elephant bit.

I'm going to tell you all about my opinion on Skeleton Racing. I think it looks pretty cool, but after the third person to go, it gets pretty repetitive. The track is the same for every person, and you can't exactly personalize your run unless you mess up badly. With other winter sports like freestyle skiing, you can do your signature trick, do something spectacular and generally make it different. But with Skeleton racing, there's a track. You go down it. You try to make your helmet interesting.  

How It Works

 Although, some of the art on helmets are pretty interesting. It's the way to personalize your look, and make you different from the rest. My opinion is that it hurts a lot if you mess up, and you're basically training for your whole life for this moment, and you just go down a slippery track... but the science behind it is cool. You can go up to 130 km/h and experience up to 5 g of force. Obviously you have to be strong for this. Hope this has given you more thoughts on the sport! 

Russia's Anti-Gay Bill

So as you know, the Olympics are in Russia. There's a lot of controversy over that, especially about gay rights. The bill that was passed that foreign gay couples can't adopt children in Russia and that gay marriage isn't allowed.
 Obviously, there have been protests and boycotting, but the bill is still around. Even big companies aren't really speaking out against this (I'm not saying all of them all) but Coca-Cola made this thing where you can personalize a virtual Coke bottle with a word, but when you type in "Gay" it says: "oops... let's pretend you didn't type that." It lets you type in "Straight" but not "Gay". Obviously people have found other ways of expressing their opinions with typing in things like "BoycottRussia" and stuff like that.

Of course, people are speaking out against this and there are tons of protests going on. My opinion is that if you're gay, you're gay. That's completely fine, and people should accept that. This is no way of making a gay person un-gay. People have got to accept that, because being gay isn't like being sick and dirty, it's just how you are. It's the 21st century, and people have got to stop being so oblivious to the fact that gay is COMPLETELY alright.  Accept it.

I'm pretty excited. Yes, it's geared towards little kids, but I read that there's a joke about Starbucks and it got really good reviews. Plus hey, Lego's cool. Anyway, I'll probably have to see it pretty late as to avoid loud tiny people... But it's pretty exciting.

It doesn't matter whether they're from New Who or not. So far, mine is the although I think Peter Capaldi will be one of my favourites too. Alright, think carefully! Who's your favourite? Disclaimer: I'm only on page 20, so there's a lot to learn. Overall, it's a pretty typical Dystopian novel. BYE. This is the cover.

Hi! So, for school, we're currently reading Dystopian books, and I really super wanted to read Fahrenheit 451 but there was only one copy, so I ended up with Unwind. So far, it's not bad, and basically it's about our world in the future where when you're 16, your parents can have you unwound. Unwinding is when they take all your organs and donate them, (obviously leaving you dead because your parents didn't like you enough to keep you alive.) 
 Some themes thus far are:
 -Hiding information from other people, (one of the main character's parents never tell him he is going to be unwound, and he only finds out through snooping)
-Fear (children who are going to be unwound are obviously terrified of the process, and children under the age of 16 never quite know if there organs are going to stay with them for the rest of their lives, and then the general public, who doesn't really like it all.)
-Rebellion (One of the main characters runs away in the dead of night and hitches a ride with a trucker, but his parents track him by his cellphone and find him. This leads us to... [insert drum-roll] 
-Control (nobody has privacy, anyone with a cellphone can be tracked, so this can ensure safety, and at the same time danger.)

BELLIES

This is one of my two cats. She is getting a bald stomach. I felt that the internet should be aware of this phenomenon, and be enlightened on it. Also, I figured out how to put pictures in a post, but it kind of only work at home.

The Sherlock Musical

It's real. Really, truly positively real. Sadly, it's not a full musical, but it's pretty much as good as it gets. Also sadly, it's not actually Benidict and Martin playing Sherlock and Watson, but the guys playing them got the faces just right, as you can probably see.

Tofurky

So, over the holidays, which I hope weren't cold and dark if you live in Toronto, we got a Tofurky. Now, I know they have a reputation for being tiny, and they are. That's why we added lots of potatoes so it was fairly substantial. It's roughly the size of almost 3/4 of a cantaloupe, but it has yummy stuffing and about a liter of gravy. Plus, it came with a vegan cake and vacuum packed "Wishstix" which were quite interesting. Apparently this Tofurky has grown by 20% although it honestly wouldn't be much of a festive meal if it was so tiny. But the best part is that it comes with a post card from Tofurky land wishing you were there. I guess it's a yummy cult thing... 

Dystopia and Books

 I read the Hunger Games series. I didn't like it very much, however I like the concept of Dystopia and Utopia. I find this concept interesting because lots of the time, the setting is like our our current modern society is, but taking worst case scenario and taking it to the extreme. Like how our teacher said that there are hidden cameras hidden at certain intersections. In a Dystopia situation maybe there could be cameras everywhere, tracking people's actions and heck, maybe some drones as well. That could be an everyday thing we haven't really thought about in an extreme Dystopia situation. Here is the cover of the Hunger Games book.  (Remember, I didn't like it.)
